The CFPB has issued its December 2015 complaint report which highlights money transfer complaints and complaints from consumers in Georgia and the Atlanta metro area.

General findings include the following:

  • As of December 1, 2015, the CFPB handled approximately 770,100 complaints nationally, including approximately 21,000 complaints in November 2015.  For November 2015, debt collection continued to be the most complained-about financial product or service, representing about 30 percent of complaints submitted.

The CFPB has issued its November 2015 complaint report, the fifth in its new series of monthly complaint reports.  The new report highlights bank account or service complaints and complaints from consumers in Connecticut and the Hartford metro area.

General findings include the following:

  • As of November 1, 2015, the CFPB handled approximately 749,000 complaints nationally, including approximately 23,300 complaints in October 2015.

The CFPB has issued its third snapshot of complaints received from servicemembers, veterans and their families (“servicemember complaints”).  The report covers complaints received from July 21, 2011 through December 31, 2014.  In 2014, the CFPB received more than 17,000 complaints from such individuals (out of a total of approximately 29,500 complaints received over the entire period covered).… Continue Reading

The CFPB has published a notice in today’s Federal Register stating that the CFPB is developing a form to allow companies to “proactively participate” in its online company portal for viewing and responding to consumer complaints.

According to the notice, the CFPB’s proposed form, the “Company Portal Boarding Form,” will “serve to streamline information collection” from companies seeking to register to use the company portal and “result in a greatly enhanced and efficient experience from both the consumers and companies’ perspectives.” … Continue Reading

Earlier this month, the CFPB issued a press release describing its second snapshot report of complaints from military consumers.  The report details complaints the CFPB has received from servicemembers, veterans, and their families and the measures it has taken in response.  Between July 2011 and January 2014, the CFPB has received approximately 14,000 complaints, handling more than 250 complaints per week in the last fiscal quarter. … Continue Reading

Servicemembers now have more channels for submitting complaints relating to their higher education.  In addition to their ability to submit complaints about student loans via the CFPB’s complaint system, servicemembers using Post 9/11 GI Bill and other military education benefits for higher education can use a new online complaint system announced by several federal agencies, including the FTC, DOJ and CFPB. … Continue Reading

The CFPB has announced that its consumer complaint system is now accepting complaints about payday loans.  In describing the issue involved in a complaint, a consumer can choose from the following:

  • Unexpected fees or interest
  • Unauthorized or incorrect charges to their bank account
  • Payments not being credited to their loan
  • Problems contacting the lender
  • Receiving a loan they did not apply for
  • Not receiving money after they applied for a loan

Consumers with a complaint about a lender’s collection practices on a payday loan are directed to submit a debt collection complaint.… Continue Reading
